January 13, 2025
We are excited to announce our partnership with Binar Futures for 2025, a collaboration that highlights our shared commitment to empowering Aboriginal communities.
This partnership will tip off with the South West Aboriginal Medical Service’s involvement in the Great Southern Basketball Carnival and the Binar Health Embassy in Albany next week.
A team of dedicated SWAMS staff from our Tackling Indigenous Smoking team will be on hand at the Binar Health Embassy event on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th January 2025, ready to connect with the community, share insights about our programs and provide a delicious free barbecue to help fuel the energy of participants.
We will be one of many health organisations providing information and more at the event, which organiser Adam Desmond said is expected to host up to 70 teams of young people. That partnership is a bid to expand our networks and support better health outcomes and opportunities for our young people. Binar has touched the lives of an estimated 5000 young people since it started in 2011.
SWAMS CEO Lesley Nelson said she was thrilled to announce the 2025 partnership with Binar, which means meteor in Noongar.
“Binar Futures’s incredible work with young people in our Aboriginal communities across the South West, Great Southern, and all over WA continues to inspire and empower future generations.”
Binar Futures is making a real difference in the lives of our young people, providing opportunities to develop their skills, confidence, and connection to their health and community. We are proud to support their efforts and celebrate their commitment to strengthening our culture and youth.”
This collaboration reflects SWAMS’ mission to promote wellbeing and resilience within our communities, creating a brighter future for generations to come. We look forward to seeing you at the Great Southern Basketball Carnival and the Binar Health Embassy this weekend!
Additional quote from Adam Desmond, Binar Futures Founder and Executive Director:
We are excited to partner with SWAMS in 2025 to continue empowering our young people. Together, we can create opportunities for them to thrive, both on and off the basketball court. By combining sports with health and cultural connection, we’re building a foundation for future leaders who are proud of their identity and community.
