The South West Aboriginal Medical Service Ltd (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, founded on the principles of self determination, empowerment and freedom of choice. SWAMS recognises the right of everyone to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.

Purpose and philosophy
To achieve the highest attainable standard of health for and with Noongar People, SWAMS will pursue the delivery of best-practice and culturally appropriate holistic health services to the Indigenous population of the South West region of Western Australia.

Aboriginal communities who are inspired to build their own bright future. To provide high quality, culturally appropriate and holistic healthcare which builds strong and healthy Aboriginal Communities.

At SWAMS we aim to:
- Ensure that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community have access to a holistic culturally sensitive and relevant medical service.
- Provide services that offer support, care and education.
- Assist in bridging the gap between cultural and mainstream services.
- Ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities have a right to participate in decision making about the provision of Medical services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the community.

Our sector
Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Sector
SWAMS is one of 143 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHSs) across the country devoted to Aboriginal health and well-being issues. Without the support from our governing bodies AHCWA and NACCHO we would not achieve the continuing positive outcomes for our people here in the South West.
We must work actively together to “Close the Gap” our sector is a community of passionate and knowledgeable people who consistently fight for our people and our health.
About NACCHO
National Aboriginal community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) is the national peak body representing 143 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) accros Australia. NACCHO works directly to increase the capacity of Aboriginal Peoples involved in ACCHSs to participate in national health policy development.

About AHCWA
AHCWA is the peak body for 23 WA Aboriginal community Controlled Health Services. AHCWA represents the needs of its Members, act as a forum to lead and influence the development of Aboriginal health policies across WA.
AHCWA advocates for the rights and entitlements of all Aboriginal people and ACCHS throughout Western Australia at local, regional, state and national level.
