Community Update: Coming Together at Our AGM

April 24, 2026

On Thursday, 23 April 2026, South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) held a Court Ordered Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bunbury.

More than 100 members attended the AGM in person, and we also had over 200 proxy votes. These numbers show the strength of support for SWAMS and how much our members care about our governance.

It was an important moment for our organisation, with SWAMS members coming together to choose a full Board of six Member Directors. The election was run independently by the Western Australian Electoral Commission and overseen by independent Chairperson Craig Sanderson. This helped make sure the process was fair, open, and grounded in community voice.

We’re pleased to share the results of the election:

Rhonda Norman – 3 year term

Michelle Munns – 3 year term

Lesley Ugle – 2 year term

David Williams – 2 year term

Robyn McCreanor – 1 year term

Maxine Williams – 1 year term

The new Board members will be officially appointed over the coming week. We’re also gathering short Board profiles, which will be shared on our website soon so our community can get to know the people who will be representing them.

We recognise that there were many questions form Community that were taken on notice at the AGM, we will collate these and ensure a formal response is given to those members and published on our website for all.

We’d like to sincerely thank our community, members, partners, and supporters for the patience, understanding, and care you’ve shown during this time. Through it all, SWAMS services have continued as usual. Our clinics and programs have stayed open, and our staff have continued to provide care and support to community every day.

SWAMS is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, and that means our strength comes from our members and our community. Having a say in how SWAMS is run is at the heart of who we are. This election has helped strengthen community leadership and ensures decisions continue to be guided by the voices of our people.

As we look ahead, we’re focused on moving forward together, rebuilding trust, strengthening relationships, and keeping our attention on what matters most: the health and wellbeing of our community.

We’ll keep sharing updates as the next steps happen, including the recruitment of a permanent Chief Executive Officer and Corporate Secretary once the new Board is able to meet and follow the right processes.

Thank you for standing with SWAMS, for believing in community control, and for being part of our journey forward.
