SWAMS is proud to launch our new Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) campaign – created with and for our local communities across the region.
The campaign focuses on two key groups: Aboriginal youth and pregnant mothers. It’s all about protecting the next generation by raising awareness about the dangers of smoking and vaping, and building confidence to say no when offered a smoke.
We know it’s not always easy to say no – especially for our young people facing peer pressure. That’s why we’re sharing messages that remind our youth that smoking will slow you down at a time you should be running, laughing, breathing strong and staying proud:
“Stay strong! Don’t let peer pressure steer you wrong!”
Choosing not to smoke shows pride, courage and respect for yourself and your culture.
We also want to support our pregnant yorgas and their families who are thinking about quitting. One of our campaign messages says it straight from the heart: “Smoking during pregnancy can lead to premature birth, low birth weight and developmental issues. Choose love over smoke. Your bub deserves a healthy start.”
You’ll see familiar faces and local voices in the campaign. We yarned with moort in Bunbury, Bindjareb, Katanning, Narrogin and beyond to shape the messages in a way that feels real and respectful.
