Little Footsteps, Big Futures in Katanning

August 1, 2025

Families gathered at Katanning Playgroup on 1st August to celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, with a morning full of culture, connection and community spirit.

Organised by Badgebup Aboriginal Corporation and supported by the SWAMS Access Team, the event featured free dental checks for children aged up to 4 years old, thanks to the Early Years Partnership dental team. It was a moorditj day of shared stories, sizzling sausages and damper made by mums around the fire.

Children explored the outdoors with mud pies, chalk and water art, and even cracked open macadamias, finishing the day with fresh fruit and cupcakes.

The event was proudly supported by Amity Health WA, The University of Western Australia, Minderoo Foundation, Rural Health West, WA Country Health Service and others.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make this special day one to remember for our koorlangka.
